Upcoming Events
There’s no one right way to build a family.
Becoming Parents puts the people with answers in one room, for a full afternoon, for free.
Here’s how the day runs:
2:00 – 1:00 · Lunch — Come hungry. Lunch is on us, at round tables, so you can meet other people doing exactly what you’re doing before anything formal starts.
1:00 – 1:45 · The Panel — Moderated conversation, questions chosen in advance from what registrants told us they actually needed to know.
1:45 – 2:15 · Legal Session — A family law attorney on what actually protects your parentage in Missouri and Kansas. Everyone stays in the room for this one. It matters no matter which path you take.
2:45 – 3:15 and 3:30 – 4:00 · Breakout Sessions — Two rounds, two rooms each round. Smaller groups, panel providers, and room for the specific questions you didn’t want to ask in front of eighty people. Go to two. Go to whichever ones you’re curious about — you do not need to have your path picked.
2:15 – 4:00 · Resource Tables — Open all afternoon in the hallways. Attorneys, agencies, clinics, doulas, social workers, therapists, and more — all vetted, all in one place, all yours to talk to on your own schedule.
Free to attend. Lunch included. Made possible by our sponsors and by the Modern Family Allys who fund this work every month.

Community
Modern Family Alliance (MFA) is dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ parents, their children, and those on the path to parenthood. Through events, resources, and education, we foster a vibrant and inclusive community in the Kansas City metro area where all families are respected, encouraged, and celebrated.
MFA is more than an organization—it’s a movement toward inclusion, understanding, and celebration.
Here’s why your support is essential:
- LGBTQ+ Families Face Unique Challenges: From legal barriers to societal bias, MFA provides vital resources to help navigate these hurdles.
- LGBTQ+ Families Need Safe Spaces: Family rejection remains a pressing issue. Our programs offer affirming environments where children and parents alike can thrive.
- Education Fosters Inclusivity: Many individuals and institutions want to be allies but lack awareness. Our advocacy efforts bridge this gap.
- Community Strengthens Families: Connections within a supportive network empower LGBTQ+ families to live openly and proudly.
- Representation Matters: Visibility and positive storytelling shift cultural perceptions and create a more inclusive future.
