Modern Family Alliance (MFA) is dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ parents, their children, and those on the path to parenthood. Through events, resources, and education, we foster a vibrant and inclusive community in the Kansas City metro area where all families are respected, encouraged, and celebrated.
At MFA, we believe in the power of connection. Our network of LGBTQ+ parents offers mentorship, support, and advocacy, ensuring that all families have access to essential resources and community backing.
Our initiatives include:
- Resource & Referral Support: Guidance on adoption, parenting, legal matters, and more.
- Education & Training: Workshops and educational programs for LGBTQ+ parents, professionals, and allies.
- Awareness & Advocacy: Promoting respect and visibility for LGBTQ+ families within the broader community.

Our History
Founded in 2002 as the Midwest Alternative Family Alliance (MAFA), MFA was created as a catalyst for social action on behalf of LGBTQ+ families. In 2005, we became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, amplifying our ability to connect families and educate the community.
In 2015, we rebranded as the Modern Family Alliance to better reflect the evolving landscape of LGBTQ+ families. By 2018, we joined the National Network of LGBTQ Family Groups, furthering our commitment to best practices and impactful programming.
- 2002: Founded as Midwest Alternative Family Alliance (MAFA) to advocate for LGBTQ+ families.

The Board

Jennifer
- Executive Board Director
Jennifer Wilson (she/her) is leading the charge as Executive Director of Modern Family Alliance! With a proven track record in leadership and management, Jennifer is dedicated to empowering LGBTQ+ families to embrace their authentic selves with confidence and pride.
Under her leadership, MFA has seen sustained growth, expanded programming, and increased visibility—creating stronger, more inclusive communities where parents and children can connect, share experiences, and build lasting support networks.
Jennifer is passionate about showcasing positive queer representation, ensuring that the next generation of parents feels seen, inspired, and supported. By fostering collaboration within the queer community, she is building a united front for advocacy, visibility, and collective strength.
Beyond her work, Jennifer is a queer wife and mother of three, bringing both heart and lived experience to her role. Her leadership will continue to amplify MFA’s mission, creating a more inclusive, connected, and empowered futurefor all families.

Tiffany
- Board Chairperson
- Chair of Fundraising + Board Development Committee
Tiffany E. Vincent (she/her) is serving as Board Chairperson for Modern Family Alliance! A full-time disruptor, part-time dreamer, Tiffany is a powerhouse in workforce development and talent pipelining, dedicated to empowering the underrepresented with knowledge, courage, and access.
By day, she’s a Talent Development Partner at BJC Health System | Saint Luke’s, challenging the status quo and ensuring more voices get a seat at the table. By night (and, let’s be honest, all the time), she’s leading MFA with vision, strategy, and a commitment to strengthening the organization’s impact through governance, leadership, and strategic fundraising.
Unapologetically queer and proudly married to her better half for 11 years (and counting!), Tiffany is also a devoted mom to Kyler and Kam. When she’s not busy making waves, you can find her traveling, crafting t-shirt blankets, watching the WNBA, or spending time with her favorite humans.
With Tiffany at the helm, Modern Family Alliance is in bold, brilliant hands, and we can’t wait to see the impact she’ll continue to make!

Emily

We are thrilled to welcome Emily H. Rosenbaum (she/her) as the Vice Chairperson of Modern Family Alliance! As the owner and Founder of Hartstone Collaborative, Emily is an empathic disruptor dedicated to education, empowerment, connection, and mental wellness.
Her guiding philosophy is self-compassion—believing that when we learn to care for ourselves the way we care for others, we uncover our most authentic selves. Emily sees MFA as an act of self-love, a place where board members and community leaders empower each other while ensuring every member can move through the world safely and authentically.
A passionate advocate for diversity, inclusion, and bias education, Emily helps individuals better understand themselves to live a more joyful and fulfilling life. She is driven to create a more inclusive and welcoming world for her three children—and for future generations. Oh, and did we mention? She’s obsessed with pugs!
In her role as Vice Chairperson,Emily brings drive, motivation, and fierce determination to expand MFA’s impact through education and collaboration.She is committed to strengthening MFA’s connections with other organizations across Kansas City to grow and amplify its mission.

Anna

Board Treasurer

We’re thrilled to welcome Anna Knutson (she/her) as Treasurer of Modern Family Alliance! A talented photographer and owner of Anna Knutson Photography, Anna has spent years capturing life’s most meaningful moments. But beyond the lens, she’s also a numbers whiz—bringing her financial expertise to MFA’s mission of supporting LGBTQ+ families.
Anna has a long history of community involvement, having served as Secretary for Kansas City Pet Project, contributed to the SAVE Inc. Planning Committee, and played an ongoing role on the AIDS Walk Steering Committeesince 2017. She’s passionate about ensuring nonprofit messaging reaches untapped communities and advocating for the rights of LGBTQ+ parents and families.
Outside of work, Anna is a devoted dog mom to two bulldogs, loves exploring nature with her camera, and is an avid soccer fan—having traveled the world to watch the game and proudly supporting women’s sports.
At MFA, Anna is dedicated to shedding light on the struggles LGBTQ+ parents face and the laws that impact their families. With her unique mix of financial savvy, creative vision, and deep commitment to advocacy, we know she’ll make an incredible impact!

We’re beyond excited to welcome Kt McCalla (they/them/theirs) to the Modern Family Alliance Board as our new Secretary! With over 12 years in the hospitality and events industry, Kt brings a wealth of experience in event planning, youth advocacy, and inclusion education.
As a Certified Inclusive Professional and DEI Trainer, Kt is deeply committed to creating accessible and inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued. One of their standout achievements? Founding and directing a nonprofit summer camp designed to empower youth from historically excluded groups—a true testament to their passion for equity, kindness, and joy.
Kt’s organizational skills, attention to detail, and unwavering dedication make them an incredible addition to MFA. We can’t wait to see the impact they’ll bring to our community!

Noel Muse
- Chair of Marketing + Outreach Committee
We’re thrilled to welcome Noel Muse (she/her) as our Chair of Marketing and Outreach at Modern Family Alliance! With 15+ years in business, Noel is the ultimate mix of creative powerhouse and organizational wizard, specializing in web design, marketing, social media, and community-building.
Her passion? Bringing people together for a bigger impact and creating safe, inclusive spaces. She’s served on the Board for Stonewall Sports, volunteered at pet shelters, and conquered a decade of single motherhood—which definitely deserves a trophy (or unlimited coffee).
Noel thrives on building systems that help organizations run smoother, crafting strategic marketing that amplifies missions, and ensuring people feel seen and heard.
At home, she shares life with her 18-year-old genderqueer offspring, golden retriever soulmate, and her mom—a lively three-generation household. When not working magic in marketing, she’s thrifting, hoarding plants, petting animals, and enjoying great food (because snacks = life).

Kara
- Chair of Education + Professional Development Committee
We’re thrilled to have Kara Mulhall (she/her) returning for her second year as the Education Committee Chair! As the owner of LoveXKara, Kara brings a creative vision, a passion for team development, and a commitment to lifting up EVERY voice in the community.
Under her leadership, the Education Committee has seen consistent growth and impactful programming, providing families with safe, supportive spaces at every stage of life. Kara’s goal? To disrupt the status quo, challenge perspectives, and empower every community member to build a successful future.
A full-time artist, proud wife, and mom of four, Kara isn’t afraid to rock the boat—and we love that about her! This year, she’s focused on solidifying past programming into annual events and creating guides for new and rotating initiatives. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!

Patrick

Fundraising + Board Development Committee
We are excited to welcome Patrick R. Froman (he/him) to the Modern Family Alliance Board of Directors! As a small business owner and dedicated community advocate, Patrick brings a wealth of experience in fundraising, networking, and supporting underrepresented communities.
For over seven years, Patrick has created a safe space for minorities and queer artists/makers through his business, Fetch. He is an active member of the Historic West Bottoms Business Association, a former board member of Fashion Group International, and a passionate fundraiser for organizations like the Missouri Abortion Fund and the Kansas City ACLU. His commitment to giving back also extends to volunteer work with Kanbe’s Market and Missouri Abortion Fund.
Patrick’s inspiration comes from his two young nephews, who are from a queer family. His dedication to building safe, inclusive spaces fuels his work within MFA. When he’s not busy advocating, you can find him vintage shopping, cheering on KC Current, and spending time with family and friends.
In his role as Board Member at Large with a focus on the Fundraising Committee, Patrick will leverage his deep community connections to raise funds, awareness, and new opportunities for MFA. We are so lucky to have his expertise and passion on board!

Jenna
- Education + Professional Development Committee
We’re absolutely thrilled to have Jenna Phelps (she/her) on the Modern Family Alliance Board! As a litigation attorney representing Missouri’s Department of Social Services, Jenna is a powerhouse advocate dedicated to protecting vulnerable populations. With her deep expertise in legal research, networking, and policy work, she’s committed to creating meaningful change for LGBTQ+ families.
Jenna’s impact goes beyond the courtroom—she’s been published in UMKC’s Law Review, helped pass Kansas City’s bias-motivated crimes ordinance, and works alongside KCPD’s LGBTQ+ Liaison to train officers on LGBTQ+ youth issues. Her work ensures sustainable change that strengthens our community.
Beyond her advocacy, Jenna is a proud travel hockey mom who finds inspiration from her own kiddo and the young people she encounters daily. She’s bringing her legal expertise, networking skills, and passion for advocacy to MFA, helping us amplify our mission and continue the fight for equality.
We can’t wait to see Jenna’s brilliance in action and the impact she’ll bring to the team!
